The Commissioner of the Revenue is required by law to assess vehicles by means of a recognized pricing guide.  Giles County assessments are based on 100% of the retail value as of the January edition of the NADA Official Used Car Guide and the Official Older Used Car Guide.  Adjustments for high mileage are made on vehicles with excess of 100,000 miles.  In order to have vehicles adjusted for high mileage, you must provide proof of your mileage as of January 1st with a copy of your inspection sticker for each vehicle. For most other personal property, the assessed value is based on original cost or a percentage thereof.
